#Fukushima I Nuke Accident: Japanese Government Admits "Melt-Through" in Reactors 1, 2 and 3

It's so predictable how these politicians and bureaucrats behave: like they have behaved ever since the start of the accident.

Yomiuri Shinbun (original in Japanese; 6/7/2011) reports that the Japanese government will now admit in the report to IAEA that the "melt-through" may have taken place in the Reactors 1, 2 and 3 at Fukushima I Nuke Plant.

According to Yomiuri, "melt-through" happens when the melted fuel leaked from the Reactor Pressure Vessel and deposits at the bottom of the Containment Vessel, and is considered worse than "melt down".

Well, "fear-mongering" and "sensational" US Representative Ed Markey, D-Mass. was right then. He said back on April 6 that he'd received information that part of the reactor core had probably melted through the Reactor Pressure Vessel at the Reactor 2 at Fukushima. And the NRC said they didn't know for sure. Uh huh.

By the time the report is submitted and discussed at the IAEA, they will be talking about the corium out of the Containment Vessel, eating away the foundation.

Keep up the good work of letting the rest of the world know what's going on in Fukushima - very much appreciated here in the UK (where the news blackout is total)

there is no honor left in lying japland.
these PRIME MINISTER AND TEPPCO jackass dimwits should all commit suicide to rid the planet of useless sackS of crap.

Wonder if this will affect their 'time-line' of 6 to 9 months. I think they meant 69 months.

Thanks again for all the work you're doing. Let's hope for the best, shall we? After all, the saner minds have been believing this was the case from day one.

Interestingly and thankfully enough there was no steam explosion from corium hitting water, although all the basements are flooded. Which means there won't be. So at least there's that.

If this is correct, it is good news in a very real sense.
Three reactors melted down, but none had the massive steam explosion spreading the core debris all over which has been the biggest concern.
The hydrogen explosions that wrecked the reactor buildings did not shatter the reactor containments either.
That is the reason, along with the very favorable weather, why Fukushima has not been as much of a disaster as Chernobyl, even though it involved much more nuclear material.
The implication is that provided the hydrogen problem is adequately addressed, these reactors are more robust than people had been led to believe.

Sure. And God, Christ, Buddha, Allah will set a constant wind blowing toward the sea.

Fukushima, Tokyo and whole Japan will be protected with a special "nuke weather" : blue sky, cherry trees, flowers and wind blowing toward the sea...

At school, there was a word for such mindframe : wishfull thinking.

The past is not important. Almost irrelevant. What matters is tomorrow. Next month. Next year. The future.

It's the same regarding what you call the "robustness" of those damned reactors...

Speaking about future, Fukushima is nothing but a true disaster.

25 years AFTER Tchernobyl continues to be an issue...

What do you think Fukushima will be.... on a 25 years timescale ?

"Robust" is… how to put it - a joke I suppose. LOL, thanks.

I think the only thing that actually worked was scramming the bastards at the time of the quake. And even turned off these devices can make such a mess.

We don't even know yet what the explosions did to the containments. Hell, they even destroyed an adjacent building that wasn't even live.

The "hydrogen problem"… well, perhaps we were lucky this time to have only those small puffs. It's all totally uncontrolled, nobody can take credit for anything except Lady Luck.

"Robust" - Not.

Hello !

What do you think of this ? (before its news)

@ netudiant, again,

If these reactors were truly robust, would control rods enter the RPV from the bottom? would they have graphite seals?

Would it even be possible for corium to melt through the RPV if truly robust?

"Robust" - Not.

Looking at the remains of #3 building does not suggest containment is unshattered, nor does it speak of robustness.

TEPCO's unwillingness to-date to refuse to give all information about each reactor, instead choosing to offer half-perspectives of what they know, is a joke.
In America, that is called "face-f-ing".

So much for saving face, and their concern for your face.

I think Jim Stone is total BS I already poked plenty of holes in this moron's theory in a prior post. His supposition is so poorly crafted a 10 year old with an Internet connection could refute it.

Iran doesn't need Japan's enrichment abilities since they have been doing it for years. As for his camera "nuc" a gun type device set off in the open would create a super pure white light that can't be hidden or explained away. He also claims there is very little earthquake damage and that everything was caused by the (nuclear) tsunami. Do the Japanese readers of this blog agree, was there little earthquake damage in the effected regions? I've heard some roads were so damaged that they made travel difficult. The 9.0 quake was about 50 miles off shore so I'm not surprised it wasn't 9.0 on land.

I didn't know water could do this and not leave a muddy mess.

IMO instead of Jim Stone he should call himself Jim "Stoned" because he had to be stoned out of his mind to come up with such a convoluted explanation. Nobody but conspiracy sites are picking up his story because it is so easy to refute it.

Hello,
I appreciate your informative posts. I hope all is as well as can be with you and yours. To the best of your knowledge could you explain what you think is happening and what this information means as far as getting the units shutdown. Also, given the current situation what the possible outcome will be in your opinion. Thank you again. Best Regards

I am Japanese living in the US. I read Jim Stone's page several nights ago, and I wonder if he knew the difference between Kobe earthquake and this one. Kobe earthquake happened right under the city.

Here's a Japanese blog by someone who was at Kinkasan(金華山)when the quake hit. This is the closest land mass to the epicenter. You can see over 6 to 7 blog entries the before and after photos at Kinkasan.

I'm sure I'll be labeled "brazen" for this, w/e.

Jim Stone is performing the same function as TEPCO. They are both working the face.

Thank you for the information but this could mean a dangerous situation not just for the people of Japan but also for the neighboring countries. I hope the government will be able to control this before anything worst happens. Let's hope the Chernobyl incident does not happen again.
