#Fukushima I Nuke Plant: Hydrogen Gas Level Increased in Reactor 2

From Asahi Shinbun (10/30/2011):

東京電力は30日、福島第一原発2号機で原子炉格納容器から吸い出したガスの水素濃度が2.7%に上昇したと発表した。酸素が入って爆発しないよう窒素を送り続けており、「爆発を心配するレベルではない」としている。

TEPCO announced on October 30 that the hydrogen concentration in the gas being sucked out from inside the Containment Vessel of Reactor 2 at Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant rose to 2.7%. Nitrogen gas is continuously pumped to eliminate oxygen gas, and the company says "It is not the level where we need to worry about explosion."

The gas management system started to operate on October 28 in Reactor 2. The system sucks the gas out of the Containment system, run it through filters and release it outside [the building]. When the system started running, the hydrogen concentration was about 1%. However, at 5PM on October 30, the concentration rose to 2.7%. TEPCO has increased the amount of nitrogen gas [into the Containment Vessel] to prevent the hydrogen concentration from rising further.

 東電原子力・立地本部の川俣晋本部長代理は「空気の流れが起きて水素が漏れ出てきたのではないか」と話している。

TEPCO's Kawamata says, "The gas [inside the CV] has been disturbed [because of the gas management system] and that is stirring up hydrogen."

What a non-answer.

The hydrogen concentration level at which a danger of explosion increases is 4%.

Are there any 'out there' that feel like we are watching and living in an episode of a genetically spliced version of ; 'The Twilight Zone + The Three Stooges + Event Horizon = On-going, 'Hilarious!', Nuclear Disaster. The Japanese Government and Tepco have been DELIBERATELY non-informing, mis-informing, and LYING to The People of Japan since BEFORE the present Nuclear Disaster

So we are more than half way there to the danger of another hydrogen explosion?

Present level 2.7% and unexplained, danger level 4.

At least that is what they are telling us anyway. Great, I feel so relieved....

Explosion risk range is 4-60% hydrogen/air.
Here we have hydrogen/nitrogen, so there should be no explosive mixture at any concentration.
However, presumably the hydrogen comes from the hydrolysis of cooling water, so there may be some oxygen in the gas mixture as well. Hence better safe than sorry, so pump more nitrogen.
The source of the hydrogen is presumably cooling water hydrolyzed by direct contact with the damaged fuel. Yet the reactor temperatures are now reading well below 100 degrees C. If the fuel had left the reactor vessel, the hydrogen would be found in the secondary containment, which does not appear to be the case afaik. If that is indeed true, it seems logical to infer that damaged fuel is still in the reactor vessel.

Yet this unfathomable crime against humanity goes un-mentioned in the controlled media. They are as guilty of thes crimes as those they lie for and distort alter and deny FACTS. Ron Paul just took 82% of Iowa poll, but even C-SPAN lies and says he was third.
Our only aource of factual reporting comes from people like you. I thank you for your tireless efforts on behalf of the Japanese people. I recall a time my father told me the Japanese had an un-breakable code of national honor. How the worm has turned. I am ashamed of our governemnt and feel for what you too suffer under; the Japanese leaders are knowingly, and deliberately letting it's newborns die. Did I miss the rapture or what?

Still steam in the reactors, temp sensors are in PVs not at bottom of containment 30m below. Numerous hydrogen pathways: zirconium oxidation, thermolysis, radiolysis, reactions of core material w/ concrete, none of these are benign.

TEPCO is impossible, they have no business trying to mitigate this catastrophe.
