OurPlanet TV: What's Happening to Children Now? (7/14/2011)

Our Planet TV is an Internet-based station "with no religious or political affiliations. It was founded by a small group of producers, video journalists and other media professionals who questioned the way mainstream media covered 9.11 and the events that followed." (from their website)

One of the programs, ContAct, did an interview with Mika Noro, which was webcasted on July 14, 2011. Ms. Noro has been active in helping children in areas affected by the Chernobyl nuke plant accident, and after the Fukushima accident her organization has been setting up free medical consultations for mothers and children in Fukushima.

Noro and the host of the program discussed health issues that were starting to get reported more widely around that time, and compared them to what Noro observed in Chernobyl. Her conclusion: weakened immune system due to exposure to radiation. She is no medical doctor or radiation expert, but considering what the medical doctors and radiation experts have been saying and doing since March 11 (remember Dr. Yamashita?), that doesn't necessarily disqualify her from commenting on health and radiation.

Rather, as Dr. Nishio of Hokkaido Cancer Research Center says in the video, if this many people report almost identical symptoms (throat problems, nosebleed, diarrhea, fatigue, etc.) after being exposed to radiation from the Fukushima I Nuke Plant accident, "the doctors need to recognize them as new clinical symptoms of low-dose radiation exposure", instead of outright dismissing them (which is what almost all of them do).

Tokyo Brown Tabby translated the video into English and captioned it. (If you do not see the caption, click on "cc".)

Nuclear detectors in Washington state detect radioactive cat
Published 25 March 2008

DHS has radiation monitors along Interstate 5 to make sure no radioactive material is being smuggled into the country; the monitors are so sensitive that they detected a sick cat in a car driving at 70 miles per hour (the cat was taken home after cancer radiation treatment at the vet)

I am very glad that such shows can be seen on TV, and that they are explaining the matter in serious ways.
I suspect it will be especially helpful to mothers.

The next step would probably be to evaluate different kinds of food.

I've got a simple formula for food - all things Japanese are deadly.

And a simple formula for the people - they are all walking dead

tepco management and Japanese government should be losing their heads by now - they're beyond criminal, they're sheer evil arrogance!

look at how many prime ministers and finance ministers have gone through japan in the past 5 or 6 years. They need to elect somebody that will tell them the truth no matter how vinegary it tastes. While they may not experience cancers until 20 years from now it is in these times they must do everything they can to seal up those reactors as quickly as possible to stop the contamination spread.

Not everyone in Japan will be able to relocate or buy foreign food. People will have to figure out relative densities of contamination in different kinds of food.

Also, there is a lot of information on the net about supposedly miraculous qualities of de-tox foods. I believe that food is crucial in maintaining good health, but I also know that many people will just want to sell their products without a sound foundation.

This is where a mixture of practical knowledge, morally responsible academic/scientific research and sheer intuition (which is mocked, but must be the last resort in many survival cases) are needed.

Just doing what everyone else is doing without reflection is the worst possible thing.

This is one of the first hopeful signs I've seen in Japan, of a successful organization (headed by a woman nonetheless), to help families with children affected by the Fukushima disaster.

I was surprised to learn of Ms. Noro's experience helping the children of Chernobyl and how well suited these experiences are to the situation in Japan. I think she could be instrumental in bringing the health of Fukushima children to the forefront and her work bringing international expertise to Japan was much needed.

I hope Ms. Noro can continue her work with the support and recognition she deserves from both Japan and the international community so that she can help more of the families and children affected by this disaster.

Hi, I have been reading this blog since it all had happened. I have lived in Asia till the beginning of April 2011. I would love to help the kids. I think I have resources I can offer. I would love to contact Ms. Mika Noro, if it is possible. I have a Japanese friend who can translate for me. Do you know how can I contact Ms. Noro?
