Goshi Hosono on Disaster Debris Burning: "It's Only 33 Kilograms Per Person..."

Minister of the Environment Goshi Hosono, who was better known for his extramarital affair with a popular actress before Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant blew up, tells the citizens of Japan on an NHK interview: "It's only 33 kilograms of disaster debris from Miyagi and Iwate per person who lives outside Miyagi and Iwate."

As if it's a good thing.

NHK News (2/21/2012):

細野環境大臣は、NHKのインタビューで、被災地のがれきをほかの自治体で受け入れる広域処理を進めるため、環境省で焼却と最終処分を別々の自治体で行う方法を新たに検討したいという考えを明らかにしました。

In an NHK interview, Minister of the Environment Hosono revealed that his ministry may explore a new way whereby the incineration and the final disposal will be done in different municipalities, in order to expedite the wide-area processing of the disaster debris.

In the interview, Minister Hosono said, "I want to have portion of the debris from Miyagi and Iwate to be processed in wide areas, at all cost. If everyone in Japan outside Miyagi and Iwate Prefectures take on the debris that cannot be processed inside Miyagi and Iwate, the amount of the debris would be 33 kilograms per person. I believe it is manageable."

Hosono further said, "It would be best if a municipality could burn the debris and bury in the final processing site. But there are municipalities without the final processing sites, so in such cases we would like to come up with a system to take the ashes to a final processing site in another municipalities", indicating the Ministry of the Environment may explore a new way whereby the incineration and the final disposal will be done in different municipalities.

Minister Hosono also mentioned the case of Shimada City in Shizuoka Prefecture. After the test incineration of the disaster debris, the city let the citizens measure the radiation level of the ashes. Hosono appealed for citizens' cooperation for the wide-area disposal by saying "I would like the citizens to measure [the radiation] themselves to put their minds at ease. If you want to help the disaster-affected areas recover, please help, because [the debris] will be processed safely."

By moving the radioactive ashes from one municipality to another, it will incur additional cost for the taxpayers and a handsome profit for the waste management industry and the municipalities. Nothing to do with "recovery".

areva,
Did you have a chance to watch the iwakamiyasumi coverage?

It would be nice to hear your views on his story.

Who are you referring to? Areva has a website for your information.

This would mean that every single item in every single prefecture should be banned from export. Japan is finished.

Key giveaway to his priorities: " Minister Hosono said, "I want to have portions of the debris from Miyagi and Iwate to be processed in wide areas, at all cost. "

AT ALL COST is about right.

And at ALL PROFIT to those scum profiting from this disaster and spreading radioactivity. If people in Shimada don't protest this into oblivion there is no hope for them! And there is surely more in that smoke than miraculously acceptable amount of Cesium.

"33 kilograms per person. I believe it is manageable."...One exposure maybe, but this will be continued fallout in many forms, over and over and over. Kiss off the reputation of Shizuoka produce and green tea.

Too bad Hosono and his compadres can't make a profit from leaving the debris in the vicinity.

@darth, you nailed that! Why cannot they not figure out how to make a profit while not ruining Japan? If this question was asked so that all Japanese would see the response, I think we could start a real movement here.

Yes! Burn it! That way you can spread the radionuclides everywhere! Again! Great thinking. Flawless logic. God help us all. How does this man have a job?

Wake up Japanese parents!
Your children are depending upon you, not TEPCO to insure their future health!

Demand random testing which will keep the Gov’t. from “cherry picking” children to test!

If even a few children a found to be highly exposed, then ALL CHILDREN should be tested!

If the Gov’t. can spend BILLIONS of yen on decontamination then why can’t they also provide testing for all children UNLESS THEY ARE WORRIED ABOUT THE RESULTS!

We are now are being ruled by those in Nuclear Denial*; instead of by Leaders that demand an end to the Trillion Dollar Eco-Disaster RISK that Nuclear poses to mankind! Remember Nature does not follow design basis calculations or even engineering RISK formulas… The nuclear industry is fighting tooth and nail to maintain it's market share; yet NOW Solar (of all flavors) is far less costly to construct, faster to construct and carries with it N☢ Nuclear radioactive baggage that can kill a Countries economy and or those living nearby!
Ask The Japanese!

*Nuclear Denial

The illogical belief that Nature cannot destroy any land based nuclear reactor, any place anytime 24/7/365!

Japan's burning of nuclear tainted waste will be seen by History as the largest threat to mankind's health in history, since it will be spread by the Jet Stream and cover the Earth!

Tokyo has been burning debris for a while now. Is there any way of monitoring the affect on background radiation? Are the incinerators used for burning this debris fitted with filters to stop emissions of radionuclides?

Readers of this blog may be interested in this recent article by Gavan McCormack which also highlights the lawless and corrupt practices of the Japanese bureaucratic and corporate elites:

Tokyo's radiation background is about at 0.2 mcSv. BUT (and that's the most dangerous thing in my opinion): It's just the background and measuring the background is not important (unless even the background radiation is high..). There are MANY places where you find radioactive particles lying and flying around. Those particles are spread anew everyday. If you want to measure them you have to bring your counter close enough- about 2 cm. Then the counter shows for example 0.8 mcSv. And that shows that many dangerous particles can be inhalted everywhere. It can be Strontium, Cesium, even Plutonium cause all these things have been found around Tokyo.
All Japanese authorities know very well what's going on and that's what keeps them hiding and concealing everyday. You can't trust any Japanese official document- if it's a newspaper, a TV show, a blog entry-
If 26 years ago the internet had been as developed as it is today it would have looked alike. The one side, the other side.
Until today only one person has dared to name what's going on with the world- why there is no country in the world bringing Japan to justice: It's about money and the damned fear of losing trade partners: Money makes the world go round. Money makes Japan's radioactives particles go round the world and nobody will do anything against it.
So one can only hope that ten years from now, when everybody in the world will know what really has happened (unfortunately when there will be a lot of suffering and deaths), one can only hope that then at least everybody who is involved in that biggest crime in human history is still alive, suffering too and awaiting worst punishment.

I'm sorry. Of course those "hot" particles I was talking about show radiation levels even far beyond 0.8 mcSv. Just watch those videos on youtube published by "birdhairjp" (Thanks a lot for publishing that, birdhairjp, by the way!)

I agree, individuals are no longer important, except as customers to the Mega Corp's...

I can imagine the Boardroom conversations at TEPCO; "We need to focus on our Future, not their health, we will always have customers, just not the same ones"...

And of course: There have been many "biggest" crimes in human history but this is definitly one of them!
