Ooi Nuke Plant Reactor 3 to Start on July 1st

Never mind the 28 alarms.

From Yomiuri Shinbun (6/25/2012):

KEPCO to start the reactor No.3 at Ooi Nuclear Power Plant on July 1

Kansai Electric Power Company (KEPCO) has disclosed that the company now expects to start the nuclear reactor on July 1 at Ooi Nuclear Power Plant Reactor 3 (Ooi-cho, Fukui Prefecture), which KEPCO has been working on to prepare for the restart.

So far, KEPCO has hinted that the start date for the reactor would be sometime between July 1 and 3. The clean-up of the pipes for the secondary cooling system is expected to be finished on June 26, which has made the schedule for the restart much firmer.

According to KEPCO, the control rods will be removed on July 1.

By the way, someone tweeted on June 23 that he called Yomiuri Shinbun and asked why the newspaper hadn't reported on the protest on June 22 in front of the Prime Minister's Official Residence in central Tokyo. The alleged answer from the newspaper was, "These people were doing what is against our principles and positions, so we made the decision not to report the protest. They were doing what we couldn't possibly approve of."

If this is true, Yomiuri Shinbun has no pretense about what they are, and that is good. People can now jettison the idea that Yomiuri is in a business of reporting news.

Let's see what Yomiuri is reporting today that must be satisfying their principles and positions and which they highly approve of. From their online version top headlines:

社会保障・税一体改革法案、衆院特別委で可決

Social security and taxation integrated reform bill passed the special committee of the Lower House

Day of confrontation: Prime Minister has anguished look, Mr. Ozawa full of fighting spirit

10 members of Osaka City Board of Education has tattoos, including one teacher

So the paper likes the so-called reform which will destroy what's left of the middle class and punish the poor and the elderly. It also likes the tattooed educators in Osaka City.

I had a quick look at Daily Yomiuri Online. It's shocking what you can find there what they obviously approve of. A random example:
http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/photos/0005/lens220.htm
In the Vietnam War, U.S. forces exfoliated jungle areas in Vietnam with Agent Orange, a substance which, still today, causes severe disabilities in children born 2 generations after exposure. 4 million Vietnamese are officially recognized as victims of Agent Orange.

So, I take it, Yomiuri does approve of the use of Agent Orange in a war. Yomiuri does report about it - so spraying Agent Orange on people is not against their principles and positions.

Would love to see something in writing from Yomiuri to that effect. But they probably don't have the nerve to actually publish a statement like that in their newspaper.

You're basically comparing Japan badmouthing the U.S. to Japan badmouthing themselves. Of course they're going to do that. But it's still not so simple. Don't look at things in such black and white terms. There are loads of grays.

One of the reasons they report about Agent Orange because it makes the U.S. look bad. Countries like to make themselves look superior.

They don't report about nuclear energy because of reasons like, nuclear energy is big money, and they don't want to admit that they are screwed or screwed up. They don't want to lose their jobs, and they don't want panic or unrest.

The following was written 3,000 years ago. It seems applicable when thinking of the DPJ's plans to restart Ooi:

Do not fret when wicked men seem to succeed! Do not envy evildoers! For they will quickly dry up like grass, and wither away like plants. Trust in the Lord and do what is right! Settle in the land and maintain your integrity! Then you will take delight in the Lord, and he will answer your prayers. Commit your future to the Lord! Trust in him, and he will act on your behalf. He will vindicate you in broad daylight, and publicly defend your just cause. Wait patiently for the Lord! Wait confidently for him! Do not fret over the apparent success of a sinner, a man who carries out wicked schemes!Do not be angry and frustrated! Do not fret! That only leads to trouble! Wicked men will be wiped out, but those who rely on the Lord are the ones who will possess the land. Evil men will soon disappear; you will stare at the spot where they once were, but they will be gone. But the oppressed will possess the land
and enjoy great prosperity. Evil men plot against the godly and viciously attack them. The Lord laughs in disgust at them, for he knows that their day is coming. Evil men draw their swords and prepare their bows, to bring down the oppressed and needy, and to slaughter those who are godly. Their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken...

Take heart. We are right. We will win this fight eventually.
