PM Noda: "Ooi Nuclear Power Plant Restart Is Necessary for the Growth of Japanese Economy"

or something to that extent, empty words. How would a restart of two reactors in Kansai ignite the growth of the overall Japanese economy that's been stagnant for the past 20 years?

From Jiji Tsushin (6/4/2012):

Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda spoke in the press conference in the afternoon of June 4 about the restart of Reactors 3 and 4 of Ooi Nuclear Power Plant operated by Kansai Electric. The final decision to restart the reactors is to be made shortly. He said, "We will vouch for the safety. The restart is necessary for the overall growth of the Japanese economy and society." He added emphatically, "If we can obtain the understanding of the municipality where the plant is located, we will decide in the meeting of the ministers involved. I will be the one ultimately responsible for the decision."

Noda seems to think that the vote he got in the leadership election of his party last year is a vote of confidence and a carte blanche from the electorate, giving him the power to do whatever he thinks necessary (or his handlers think necessary).

As I mentioned before, there are 4 ministers including Noda who are involved in the matter of restarting the plant. The other three are Yukio Edano (Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry), Goshi Hosono (Minister of the Environment, minister in charge of the nuclear accident), and Osamu Fujimura (Chief Cabinet Secretary), who have been all plodded by Mr. Yoshito Sengoku, acting chairman of the policy bureau of the Democratic Party of Japan, who says "No restart of nuke plants means a mass suicide of Japan".

Noda's speech at the press conference was all about his cabinet reshuffle, and he didn't even mention the restart of Ooi Nuclear Power Plant. Tetsuo Jinbo, independent journalist at Video News, was the one who asked in the Questions and Answers session of the press conference what "responsibility" Noda was talking about. Noda's answer was that he would be responsible for making sure an accident would never happen. (Do you want to laugh or cry?)

Someone watching the press conference tweeted, "Prime Minister sounded like a high school student reading the speech." That's about right, but maybe an insult to high school students.

Do NOT restart any reactors in Japan! Japan can lead the way globally toward a natural, safe energy future. A future where children can go outside, drink clean water, eat non-radioactive food, and play in gardens with non-contaminated soil beneath their feet. Now is the time for the people of Japan to take a stand and stop this nuclear insanity once and for all. The time to act is now! Do what you can to block the opening of any reactor and do it NOW! It is time to wake up!

Nuclear Power is evil and Sengoku, Noda, Edano, Hosono, and Fujimura are its allies. All religious people please pray that this evil will be driven out of Japan and forever suppressed.

Anon 3:55 is right. The problem is that we are all slaves. Our government and the power companies will not even show us data which they say proves their claims. Just like Japan was willing to sacrifice its citizens clearly knowing they were losing the Pacific war, they are willing today to kill us all by radiation while they know Japan is sinking into the abyss.

Sengoku, Noda, Edano, Hosono, and Fujimura should all have their bank accounts frozen. They should all be placed on no-fly lists. They are behaving like TERRORISTS.

It is irresponsible for Japan, the country which poisoned the world with Fukushima, to re-open a nuclear power plant - ever again.

Anonymous said...

Asking permission from the little community that gets most of its money from the nuclear power plant is meaningless. The entire region, indeed the entire world, would be impacted by a disaster at Ooi; everyone's voice should be heeded.

LEADERS must listen to the PEOPLE, or they will not be FOLLOWED. In fact, in many places they have been THROWN OUT or worse.

So long as the PEOPLE are mostly against the restart, their so-called LEADERS shoud be listening to them. When people feel their voices are not heard in a democracy, some inevitably lash out in dangerous ways.

Not only is Japan toying with nuclear technology that no man knows how to completely control, but in the wake of the Arab Spring, Japan is also tempting civil unrest, the type which has toppled stronger governments in other countries. Restarting the reactors is dangerous on multiple levels. Noda and his gang should not do it.

Anonymous said...

Let them restart the reactor and when it blows up Noda and the rest of the political elite in Japan will be hunted down, Japan needs civil unrest, its the most docile asleep country ive ever been to... make no mistake japan will restart all reactors soon...

Anonymous said...

I'm afraid Anon 7:58 may be right. Japan's economy is in a free fall, and starting all the reactors can artificially make it appear like the economy is improving since people will return to their jobs, and the huge corporations related to the nuclear industry can continue business. The Japanese have never been good at organizing against authority simply because, in the past, one was simply killed for it. Now, as Noda and company embark on a mission to destroy the world just to save their political butts while letting Fukushima folks perish, it may be time for a coup d'état. I cannot see how Japan, in its present state, will survive until 2020.

Not sure how much longer this will be up, but yet another shining example of how apologizing does not have the power to turn back time and make everything right again...

In "ETHOS IN FUKUSHIMA", an anonymous person called "buvery" is planning "the ICRP stakeholder meeting" behind closed doors.

A call of participation is announced only via "buvery"'s account on twitter, detailed information is hidden.

http://togetter.com/li/312743

"buvery" announced incorrect information about estimate of I131 exposure (wrong 1000~10000 times!).

http://togetter.com/li/307583

Moreover, "buvery" is radical racist and historical revisionist, shown as his or her weblog below.

http://buvery.blogspot.jp/

"buvery" is abusing people who want to avoid radiation exposure calling "abnormal".

Noda: "What better way to solve economic woes resulting from concern over nuclear plant radioactive contamination, than by restarting more nuclear plants! I am teh genius!"

Epic logic fail.

I'm sorry to say but I think Japan is in for a penny, in for a pound as far as nuclear power is concerned. It's a hard addiction to kick. It is easy to hide the true cost of nuclear power but oil and coal, not so much. They have too much invested in nuclear power to just closeup shop the industry can't afford idle nuclear plants much less the cost to decommission them. This is part of the reason many reactors are being "recertified" for operation beyond their original 40 year life span, they haven't generated much profit yet nor put enough money away for final cleanup.

If Japan decided to indefinitely keep every plant closed the owners will eventually dump the idle reactors on the public and sue the government for their loss. You can't just lock the door and walk away from a nuclear plant it cost money to shutdown and monitor. On top of that replacing that power would have to be paid for too and all of this would fall on the taxpayer/ratepayer It would be an economic nightmare the whole way around.

We've all seen the economics of radiation in action contaminated food is now mixed into the common supply in varying amounts and municipalities well outside the contamination zone vie for contracts to transport, incinerate, and "store" radioactive waste. I seriously doubt the people in charge have learned anything about the folly of operating nuclear plants in one of the most seismically active zones on the planet.

I am not a nuclear apologist by any means. In fact I would happily do away with it all. But the conseqences of doing that are not apparent to the Japanese people.
Japan is running into the dark of night. It might not seem like that yet, but it is. Our net creditor/surplus status is being shot to pieces by energy imports. When the yen weakens dramatically, energy prices will sky rocket and so will food and everything else. You are staring at very high inflation or probable hyperinflation. The public is unaware of this. Much of Japan is basically unihabitable in the winter without heating oil. People will freeze and starve to death. The population is ageing and weak and unsustainable in present numbers. There will be calls to put the nuclear back on-at any cost. Japan has not left enough time to mitigate the transition to renewables. And even if it had, these are merely stop gap efforts while we try and grapple with a future we don't want to believe is coming straight for us-if we had but eyes to see.
The whole system ha to crash before we see the light. So I say, reluctantly, put the nuclear power stations back on from the northern half of Honshu. Move the younger population out to the warmer south. Start the hard work of bringing as much renewable energy on line whilst there is still money and affordable commodities to do so. Force every rooftop south of Osaka to house solar panels.
Will they do this? No, of course they won't because they can't see the paradigm changing upon them and people are attached to their plots of land and mortgages and favorite restaurants in Tokyo etc etc. These people are like barnacles and like barnacles they will become fossilized in the future.
What was the question?

Anonymous said...

@12:24 "What was the question?"

The question was: Can you use chopsticks?

Why is it good for the economy? Is it the extra arm and hand that you'll grow, so you can do more work?

Chibaguy said...

Yup, Noda will take all responsibility until he is out of office next year. While still in office he is trying to give matches back to the kid that set the house on fire thinking it will not happen again. Just a symbolic gesture that everything is okay. Politicians have no spine.

@anon 12:24, wow, that was a mouthful. Keeping the reactors will awake the Japanese. Restarting them will keep them in the dark. That is how they got here in the first place.

When another reactor blows Noda and his mob will cover it up, bullshit and bow, then they will retire... total fucking bastards thats what they are...

Pool the resources of your creative minds and conceive of a totally different way to produce your power. That is the only way to move ahead, not only in Japan but the entire world. Move the ideas (concepts) to manifestation (reality) by consensus participation of creating it. Ditto getting rid of the nuclear waste problem (or anything else you decide to change.) Think it all woo-woo? Consensus reality is how we are manifesting what IS, so why not create something better? Work at the energy level of who you/we are as creators. Consider this disaster as an opportunity to move into the next era of inventing a useful, different, efficient power that does not rely upon what is conventional now. The time has come to let the genie out of the bottle.

Please start those nuke plants!!!

I'm sick of hearing about how they need to be restarted! If they come apart, so what?

Let the goddam country be totally wasted by cancer and disease, better yet, let the goddam World be wasted in the process! The people in Japan are as stupid as the people in America....all they care about is their meaningless, pointless lives of self-indulgence.

They need their TV, Sports, Beer, Pornography, drugs, and video games!
They care less about what happens to their children's future or the wildlife of the planet....so, fuc*em!

They live for the Moment, can't think forward a second more. Also, they totally have forgotten about the past. So, Japan goes nuclear in a BIG way! Right out of existence!

Who really cares? No one. Everyone still wants their electric power created by these lying, sacks of dong called TEPCO. So, have fun!

PM Noda is a Pro Nuclear "Tool" and the Japanese People should reject this claim because they cannot afford to take the Trillion Dollar Eco-Disaster RISK that yet another Fukushima will happen in Japan!

It is time for Ex-PM Kan to mobilize the Japanese People and retake control of the Country; he knows what it is like to be faced with a Japan KILLING meltdown and he is no longer in Nuclear Denial*....

I think I've figured out Noda's fail logic. By "Ooi nuclear power plant restart is necessary for the growth of the Japanese economy", he's talking about the economical growth of his private bank account.

Also, am I mistaken or do the individual meanings for the kanji of "経済社会" sound like "warping/ending society"?

If China, India, Russia, Japan and the US wanted to become true World Leaders instead of just Military Powers, they would all work together to Champion Solar from Space and then lead the World toward a safe new future. Until we start getting our energy from Solar (of all flavors) and especially from Space we will continue to have Energy Wars and civil strife on Earth. Here are several books that describe how to "save" the Earth from it's nuclear folly:

The High Frontier by Gerard K. O'Neill,
Colonies In Space by A. Heppenheimer.
The Third Industrial Revolution by G. Harry Stine
The Space Enterprise by Philip Robert Harris
Mining the Sky by John S. Lewis

If the Japanese were smart, they would dedicate the entire Fukushima Area as an International Lunar TEST Base, a "practice" area and then it could be developed the same way they would develop a future base on the Moon...This would allow all the other Counties that are interested in planning a JOINT lunar base to join together with the Japanese and figure out how to use NEW Radiation-Proof technology to work in a radioactive environment, while still here on Earth. While they are doing it they could also develop a HUGE Solar Farm, whose capacity could be used by the Japanese, (instead of powering a lunar base)!

If "WE" wait much longer, the Earth will not have the resources to begin*...

Anon 8:34, you're right. That's also why sales tax is so attractive to the wealthy politicians. Income tax increases would tax them more than the average citizen, so let the folks struggling to make ends meet pay equally to the rich who want their bank accounts to grow. Judgment Day for these non-humans will come when the financial markets completely collapse. And that may not be too far off.

How about, don't build a massive multi reactor death machine where you have been told not to for CENTURIES "remember the epitaphs/stones that warned of such events on paths in fukushima?"
It's too late to follow the "dumb elephant", see "Darwin"
The tsunami/earthquake terrible was a tragedy, the nuclear disaster was earned and was/is correct and was predicted, the cost not to pay heed was the death of a nation. Whether you like it or not, there is no and will be no negotiation. No one learned anything from those warning stones, nor chernoble, tmi, etc, usa will learn nothing either, "too smart to listen or such"
I warned Japan personally in 1998 after doing research, guess you're smarter and knew better than to listen to me or history or plate tectonics or earthquake tsunami statistics, or faultlines "dormant, live, recently discovered, and or projected" I just want to say you knew, you were warned you had ample resources for information and people screaming at you that you're going to lose a nation and lo and behold.
Now listen to this, want to live? Get out of japan, it is now and will further become unliveable because "they" the ones who control the death upon the people are stupid and have failed every step of the way. Make a chart of it, you'll find it goes at a sharp angle downward and ends with japans death.
Darwin will win, you do not have what it takes to beat it. PROVEN, FACTUAL, TRUE.
They can't start Ooi because earthquakes have increased something like 24000% since TOHOKU EQ,
Now is not the time for surely you will die, which has already happened, you're just naive, if you're in japan you're naive basically.
The choice is stay/die, leave/live.
Japan will not tell the truth, I'm pretty sure fukushima isn't the only site that blew it's reactors to smithereens, it's your country/responsibility, WHY DON'T YOU GO FIND OUT about higashidori, onagawa, Namie ODAKA, fukushima daini, TOKAI DAICHI/DAINI, hamaoka, and KASHIWAZAKI KARIWA "kashiwazaki like many others is too big NOT TO FAIL." Prove that they ALL HAVENT BLOWN THEY'RE TOPS OFF, WHAT YOU FIND MAY SURPRISE YOU, I HAVE SEEN A FEW PICTURES AND THEY ARE VERY TELLING,,, WHERE'S YOUR PICTURES HUH??? HERE IS

why haven't you shown pictures of daini blown up ex-skf? are you hiding something?

lies will kill you, and I can prove it.
The radiation you find is from spent nuclear fuel burning and fissioning and oxidizing and vaporizing, iodine 129-131 etc is from active live open air fission taking place, you cannot have that in "cold shutdown"

Lies can potentially lead to death because relying on incorrect information inevitably leads to negative consequences. The fact is, no amount of lies can bend the constants of reality. Do they think radiation gives a shit about our feelings?

This whole past year has been virtually nothing but delays, selfish profiteering and the rest of us trying to peel away the thick shell of their bullshit. The whole nuclear radiation problem isn't going to go away on its own. Even the assumption that radiation eventually disappears is irrelevant if new radiation is still being pumped out.

People don't understand that if every single person was actively concerned about these dangers, we would have solved everything a long time ago. In reality, only a fraction of the population are aware that there's even a problem, and we're met with a lot of resistance from everybody else because they're in denial.

How can we hope to solve any problems if people keep avoiding and ignoring them? Skirting the issue is not a solution. The entire world needs to accept reality and face this disaster with full awareness and understanding, instead of constantly running away.

@ 12:08, what does a link about the sport of curling in Finland have to do with pictures of blown up reactors. Stop wasting people's time and show some proof if you are the one making claims. I don't think Arevamirpal is hiding anything, but you, on the other hand, should do a better job of hiding your persistent paranoid schizophrenia sprinkled with visions of self grandeur. Fucking stick the all caps up your ass while you're at it. I guess we should be thankful you are no longer ranting in unintelligible techie lingo or telling us to DIE DIE DIE. Asshole.
