The structure (crane) that would allow to lift a container filled with water into the pool and then the fuel rods under water into the container no longer exists. It cannot not be rebuilt in its original form given the dilapidated state of the building. A completely newly designed and built structure is required.

Hope this helps, and corrections are always welcome if I got it wrong.
*mscharisma*Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1765307840677473617.post-43196025902797049252012-05-28T05:41:04.929-07:002012-05-28T05:41:04.929-07:00Can someone tell me why TEPCO can't start drai...Can someone tell me why TEPCO can't start draining the fuel pool until late 2013?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1765307840677473617.post-80977698200823649332012-05-27T19:49:40.272-07:002012-05-27T19:49:40.272-07:00>numerous analysts are expressing a renewed sen...>numerous analysts are expressing a renewed sense of urgency

You mean Gundersen, Alvarez, Beyond Nuclear, none of whom were even quoted by the NYT? As usual, "the web" got there first. The New York Times has finally arrived -- better late than never.

Maybe Ex-Skf will start treating the matter more seriously, sometime soon. Btw, the unit 4 building, obviously, has bigger problems than the "3.3 centimeter" bulge in one of the walls - i.e. the roof and sections of walls that are gone all together.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1765307840677473617.post-35931784510559384672012-05-27T11:35:55.234-07:002012-05-27T11:35:55.234-07:00"There is considerable disagreement among sci..."There is considerable disagreement among scientists over whether such catastrophes are possible."

Really?
