#Fukushima I Nuke Plant: Radiation on 2nd Floor of Reactor 1 Exceeded 1,000 Millisieverts/Hour

Or more than 1 sievert/hour.

When 7 TEPCO employees and 2 NISA employees entered the Reactor 1 reactor building on early hours of May 9 (JST), the act that released mere 500 million becquerels of radioactive iodine and cesium into the atmosphere, they measured the radiation level on the ground floor which was 600 to 700 millisieverts/hour at the highest spot.

Then on May 10, someone went upstairs to the 2nd floor for the first time since March 11, and measured the radiation there. It was so high that the Geiger counter couldn't accurately measure.

And TEPCO thinks the totally melted blob of fuel rods (uranium, plutonium) + cladding (zirconium alloy) + control rods (boron, cadmium, silver, indium) + stainless steel pipes + whatever was inside the Reactor Pressure Vessel = "corium" is being safely cooled at the bottom of the RPV.

From Mainichi Shinbun (5/11/2011):

Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) announced on May 11 that the radiation level exceeded 1,000 millisieverts/hour on the 2nd floor of the Reactor 1's reactor building at Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant. TEPCO has been preparing for the work to install the external cooling system inside the reactor building. This radiation level may be too high for workers to enter and work even for a short period of time. NISA's spokesman Nishiyama said the high radiation "may affect the work to connect the pipes for the cooling system."

 高かったのは、炉心を緊急に冷却するための装置の弁付近。10日午後0時45分から5分間計測したところ、床から1.6メートルの高さ付近では、計測器が振り切れたという。

The location that registered the high radiation level was near the valve of the emergency core cooling system. Measurement was done for 5 minutes starting 12:45PM on May 10 (JST), and at 1.6 meters from the floor the Geiger counter went overscale [and couldn't measure beyond 1,000 millisieverts/hour].

 1号機では9日にも同建屋1階で1時間当たり600~700ミリシーベルトが検出されている。

The radiation level of 600 to 700 millisieverts/hour was detected on the 1st floor of the same reactor building on May 9.

Actually they are not telling you the neutron dose

Robbie001 sez:

These retards are still using inadequate radiation equipment so when the history of Fukushima is finally written they can claim the radiation levels never exceeded 1000 mSv. This is proof positive the media is more that happy to go along with official proclamations without questioning them in the least. Every news outlet should be riding officials for their lack of rigor.

If one were to graph TEPCO's assessment of the situation from the start, one would find a fairly consistent line moving downward, at an increasing rate, which means a curve getting steeper.

If one were to look at any point in that graph, and ask, "Did they know it was worse than this at this particular time?", the answer would consistently be "Yes".

What on earth makes anyone think that today is any different?

It's far worse than they even now are admitting.

This is not disclosure; this is simply another step along the way of misleading disinformation.

Y'know how i analyze this whole thing? I think of the worst possible scenario, and assume it's true. So far, that particular method has been far more accurate than anything coming out of TEPCO.

Thay are not telling that all of the spent fuel rods in the third floor coling pond of reactor number 3 has already vaporized and entered the atmosphere, That's more plutonium than it takes to kill the world!.

How on earth did the Japanese kamakaze pilots ever muster the strength to dive planes full of explosives into ships, when these scared pansies cannot even face a runaway nuke plant today. The world needs to invade Japan, seal these plants up and leave them with their glow in the dark island. They will not need lights by the time they get done, as the whole place will glow. Did the people of the world miss the part where they announced that Fukishima could be a world killer, as it has the potential to be just that, and is much worse than Chernobyl ever was. Everyone in America is too busy watching the tele, and drinking fluoride to care as most here don't realize what is going down in Japan. I guess that's what happens when a man who fakes being president rekills osama bin laden, a known CIA asset, for a chance to run again, and hide the fact he is worse than any president in history. Wake up and smell the BS you assclowns.

If the Japanese Govt isn't prepared to lay down the law and take over repair of this environmental disaster then another country is going to have to invade to do the job, before the entire northern hemisphere is written off.

PREPARE FOR HORROR AND DEATH!

Opportunity to depopulate is being witnessed? The powers that be hire the brains of the world who see the true danger yet what has happened?

I believe the time has not arrived yet for max amount of damage before they decide to do what they HAVE KNOWN from day one what to do.

The planet is being heavily poisoned deliberately and there is nothing we can do to stop this happening.

The damage is done, just take care of yourselves and family, prepare best as you can, ad if the day ever comes when we have a chance to punish the evil f/ks who have and continue to destroy our planet and its beauty then that day should NEVER be allowed to pass by.

Pay back is a bitch and i pray to see the day pay back comes and bites the evil f/ks right in their arse.

Federal Reserve and by the laws and rules of the United Nations, whereby this Federal Washington D.C. state or country, has set itself up as a control over the United States of America as a quasi-government.

go cowboys .. didn't we basically radiate our own country with atomic testing spanning two generations (1940's to late 80'ZzZzZz) wake up.
what's happening in japan in absolutely devastating. how would the US handle a similar incident? don't cry for me Ca-Katrina. send in more nukes cowboys! jeBus save me.

Perhaps if they were to pump sand slurry (with some boron in it) into the hot spots, glass would keep forming until they ended up with a monstrous lump of radioactive glass.
That gets coated with lead. That's covered in concrete. Then, no one ever goes there.

I absolutely agree with Drew. Where's the almighty UN now? Oh I forgot there's no profit in saving the world only in destryoing it. When the true news of America's crops and water poisoning emerge the riots will be uncontainable..........this is the end of it folks. Maybe some New Zealanders will live to repopulate the earth. M

In smaller pieces, the heat will decrease due to the decrease in criticality. Here is hoping ingenuity can create a seperator-loader robot, and soon. If not, use the guys who designed and OKed this plant from the AEC and NRC.
