Comment Section of This Blog (Repost of 10/19/2011 Post)

This is the second warning for those who come here to talk (among themselves I suppose) about totally off-topic issues endlessly. If this continues, I will spend time deleting these comments.

In addition to what I've already said in the October 19 post, I may add:

The comment section is not the place to advertise. Google's SPAM filter often fails miserably, letting in the spammers and deleting legit comments, but I can and I will filter out comments with links to external commercial sites and sites of questionable quality, as I see fit.

----------------------------------------------------

In case some of the readers haven't figured out, there are certain things you need to know.

First, this is my personal blog, not a public, free-topic forum. I haven't actively censored the comments (except for whatever Google decides to put in the SPAM folder, which is a real pain), but I can, and I will if the current situation continues.

What is the current situation as I see it?

  • Totally off-topic (i.e. unrelated to the post that the comment section is attached to) comments on religions, personal attacks or ridicules on posters who some readers don't agree with;

  • And these comments just keep going on and on.

I have kept the comment section of the blog open, so that people can share information, opinions and ideas RELATING TO the on-going nuclear crisis in Japan and the posts that I write. I welcome criticism to the posts, as well as criticism on other posters that you may disagree with, in a civil way.

However, I do not tolerate persistent personal attacks, and comments on religions that have very little to do with the posts or this blog which has been covering the events in Japan since March 11.

If the current situation continues, I will start actively removing the posts that I believe may be discouraging other people from posting comments and information by totally crowding out others.

Hello ex-skf, abroad people interested in Japan will never thanks you enough for your job on this blog.

Please do go ahead and delete the offending comments.

A suggestion I would make is to allow commenters another option to Anonymous, and the other profiles in the drop-down menu. Personally, I don't want to be Anonymous, but on the otter hand I don't want to use me real Identity either. Would it be possible to let users type in a 'username' of their choice, and an email address (which would be hidden)?

This wouldn't in itself stop the idiots from commenting, but it might help tame the wild-west atmosphere that can develop here.

Good on you ex-skf... you do a lot of good work and you ought to run your site the way you see fit. Thanks for the continued stream of information. Even though I have been a harsh critic at times, you are providing valuable info.

Thank you. I know this will be more work for you, but perhaps in time that will ease up as the inappropriate commenters realize they are wasting their time. I think this step will improve the quality of the discussion in the comments section.

Please, please delete any post with reference to Jesuits and/or Stalin. PLEASE.

I can't stomach the jesuit shit anymore--I'd rather drink plutonium too like some other commenter wrote.

I am a graduate student in the US, and I have been reading your blog since April. You do a great job of providing analysis without conjecture. It's unfortunate that some have chosen to abuse your blog. Even worse, you are now going to have to clean up after them like small children. Thank you for all of your diligent work.

Yes, please, go ahead and keep the place tidy. This blog deserves much better. Thanks for all your work.

ex-skf, thank you again too for your great reporting on these things!

Indeed, I would appreciate very much if there were less comments about jesuit conspiration and the such.
This probably induces a wholly wrong impression what kind of people read your blog.

@ anonymous 1:07pm:
Just select Name/URL as profile.
You can keep the URL field empty.
The use of just some fictional name, like I do, keeps anonymity and allows others to skip my posts if they don't like them.

Time to say "Thank YOU" - for your blog, effort and humanity.
I know there are many like me who have never commented, but are as appreciative.
Do as you see fit with "Comments" - it's your house. Love, Peace & Safety to you.

thank you thank you thank you for your patience. sorry that you have to spend any time because of other's immaturity.

as far as 'off topic' in general, a contact form of some sort would be useful, would prevent some off topic comments which in reality are only seeking to inform. don't know what percentage these are, but i would think them potentially useful. no doubt i would think that...

with a smile -- thank you again -- you are crucial right now -- thank you !

Why don't you stick to your own webpages. I don't understand what you are doing here and neither do most other people. Almost everyone writing in the comment sections is anti-nuke so why the hell you insist on hanging out here calling people "nukelubed" is beyond absurd. It's insane. How many places have you been banned from?

He was banned from enenews.
