(OT) To Readers

Sporadic posting in the past two weeks due to a medical emergency. Only occasional tweets and retweets on Twitter for now. (If you follow me on Twitter, I've been trying to tweet in Japanese and in English.)

I hope to come back to full reporting on the Fukushima accident soon.

In the meantime, leakage galore at Fukushima I Nuke Plant. Here's the link to the alerts to the press in Japanese: http://www.tepco.co.jp/cc/press/index_ho-j.html

and English: http://www.tepco.co.jp/en/press/corp-com/release/index_ho-e.html

  3. Please take care. You have really been a light in the darkness for me (ah, there is somebody sane out there!) Interesting news this morning - Koizumi has suddenly reappeared and taken the position that Japan should now go "no nuclear" and switch to renewable sources. I don't like his economics, but maybe he can be a useful counterweight on these issues.

thanks for everything, get better abd do nor let yourself be rushed (or rush yourself. You better prepare for a long life span if you continue to blog -- first, until they have placed the stuff "securely" under earth, then reporting what comes out from there again ...

  12. For those who need reading material until ex-SKF returns to his ultra-vitality, this book looks to be worthy,

"On November 11, 1940, 21 slow, canvas-covered British warplanes, launched from the carrier Illustrious, attacked the harbor at the Italian port of Taranto and put most of the Italian navy out of commission. This all-but-forgotten operation, the authors argue, deserves historical recognition as an inspirational precedent for the Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor 13 months later. Taranto demonstrated that battleships in a shallow, heavily defended harbor could be sunk by a handful of torpedo-bombers. That lesson Adm. Isoroku Yamamoto, commander-in-chief of the Japanese fleet, learned well-while the American military virtually ignored it."

  18. This time tanks are leaking into the sea because the dyke (the concrete floor on which the tanks sit) is maybe 20/30 cm wide than the geometrical line enclosing the tanks.
However, the top plate at the top of the tanks, on which workers walk to inspect the upper part of the tank, is probably 50/60 cm wide therefore *it sticks out of the perimeter of the concrete dyke* and overflowing water therefore drips into the discharge channel.
All of this because Tepco saved a few pennies on a stripe of concrete maybe 30cm wide. (part of this info is from Asahi TV).
