Pelosi Running for House Minority Leader

Whoever had thought she would retire was sadly, naively mistaken. So much for ending the partisanship. Republicans are rejoycing, understandably.

House Republicans expressed jubilation on Friday over Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) decision to stay in Congress and seek the job of minority leader.

GOP figures, who had spent the better part of the 2010 campaign looking to tie Democratic incumbents to the Speaker, welcomed Pelosi's announcement this afternoon that she would run for Democratic leader rather than resign her position and possibly resign from Congress.

"The Democrats' gift to Speaker Boehner: Pelosi as Minority Leader," said Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), a deputy whip, on Twitter. "I endorse Nancy Pelosi for Minority Leader."

Some people just cannot let it go. They have to hog the attention, whether it is a good attention or not. All their lives they've been told they are great, they are the best, everything they've done has been a stunning success.

As for another one of such people in the White House, he is blaming the Democratic defeat on stupid Americans who didn't understand "the message". (Hahahahaha Obama just uttered what Gary North called "the proclamation for a die-hard loser".)

Good luck Dems.

I wonder if they get in line again, like they did for two years doing the bidding of the Speaker and the Prez, for the "good of the country" no doubt.

US Dollar Under the Bus

While I was trying to recuperate from a flu over the weekend, Nancy Pelosi did a sneak attack and passed her monstrosity known as "Affordable Health Care for America Act of 2009", or H.R. 3962 (in my mind, the health care deform) on Saturday night. (I'm sure it's a bargain for $30,000 per uninsured person.) Then, as if to prevent the stock market from tanking on Monday (Pelosi's deform will cost fortune for the rest of us; she doesn't care, she's one of multi-millionaires in Congress), G20 pledged to keep stimulus in place to prop up the global economy.

As the result, U.S. dollar was thrown under the bus. Oh for the good of the world, no doubt. Dollar carry trades in various forms (such as issuing U.S. dollar-denominated sovereign debt, for example) just got started.


The next support comes around 72 on the U.S. dollar index (DXY), which tracks a basket of currencies (Euro, Japanese Yen, British Pound, Canadian Dollar, Swedish Krona, Swiss Franc) against the dollar. The last time the dollar index was in the 72 range was March - July 2008. Below that level, the currency will boldly go where no one has gone before. The area around 72 is the multi-decade low. (Remember this chart?)

The U.S. stock market cheers. Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 151 to 10,175, S&P500 up 16 to 1,086, Nasdaq up 30 to 2,143 as of 12:09 EST. What will Little Timmy and Big Ben do next?

Health Care "Reform": They Will Own It

House Speaker "un-American" Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader "evil-monger" Harry Reid think they have the votes on health care "reform" that has so divided the country.

"While White House spokesman Robert Gibbs today refrained from telling reporters whether President Obama in his speech Wednesday night will set a deadline for passing health care reform, sources tell ABC News that in his private meeting with Democratic congressional leaders this afternoon the key word was urgency.

"The president told House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., that it is important for them to pass health care reform bills soon, the sources said.
"Both leaders told the president that despite the difficult rough and tumble of the legislative process in the last few weeks, they are optimistic that both the House and Senate can pass health care reform legislation.

"What will be in the bill remains an open question, though after the meeting, Reid told reporters that “we're going to do our very best to have a public option or something like a public option before we finish this work.”

The key word is urgency? The president wants to have these "reform" bills passed urgently for... what? Why because I say so! (If there is a reason, no one is saying.)

That probably means Democrats will pass the health care "reform" bills on their own, a strict partisan vote. As Reid indicated, the bill will probably include all the contentious sections - public option, extensive power to IRS (Section 141 , Section 245, Section 431, Section 453 of H.R. 3200), extensive power to an unelected Presidential appointee (Health Choices Commissioner, Section 141 of H.R. 3200), end-of-life care (Section 1233 of H.R. 3200), penalty/surtax for people without insurance (Section 401 of H.R. 3200); big pharma companies will be happy with their deal with the White House, no doubt. Oh, one more thing: Congress will be exempt from the "reform".

And one last thing: intrusive health care information technology (computerizing everything), the bulk of which was already signed into law with hardly any restraint (because it sneaked in in the stimulus bill in February), will no doubt be spearheaded by a dynamic Indian duo of Information Czar and Technology Czar. If the cash for clunkers program is any indication of the government idea of information technology in the 21st century, good luck to all of us. We will need it aplenty.

Democrats and the president will own it, if they ram the health care "reform" through Congress.

(Did "health care crisis" crash the stock market and plunge the whole world into a severe recession last fall? Maybe it did... Oh wait, it was "global warming" that did it, didn't it? Or was it "school crisis"?)

Pelosi: Townhall Meeting Protesters Are Un-American

In an Op-Ed piece in USA Today, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi with the House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer called the protesters at townhall meetings across the country against the government's health care "reform" bill "un-American".

After paying their lip service to a great American tradition of debate and dissent, the authors say:

"However, it is now evident that an ugly campaign is underway not merely to misrepresent the health insurance reform legislation, but to disrupt public meetings and prevent members of Congress and constituents from conducting a civil dialogue. These tactics have included hanging in effigy one Democratic member of Congress in Maryland and protesters holding a sign displaying a tombstone with the name of another congressman in Texas, where protesters also shouted "Just say no!" drowning out those who wanted to hold a substantive discussion.

"These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views — but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American. Drowning out the facts is how we failed at this task for decades." [emphasis is mine]

Hahaha. Good one, Madam Speaker. Who has been drowning out opposing views? Who's drowning out the facts? I think more people outside Congress have read the actual monstrocity of the bill H.R. 3200 than members of Congress have. A local radio network in my area has been reading the bill page by page for the past few weeks, every single morning.

"The first fact is that health insurance reform will mean more patient choice. It will allow every American who likes his or her current plan to keep it. And it will free doctors and patients to make the health decisions that make the most sense, not the most profits for insurance companies."

Well, I wouldn't call those "the facts". H.R. 3200 will allow Americans who like their current plans to keep them. The hitch is that they are stuck with them and cannot change them if they want to, according to Section 102 of H.R. 3200. Doctors and patients are NOT free to make heath decisions, because Section 141 of H.R. 3200 says the Health Choices Commissioner, a Presidential appointee, will decide benefits.

"Now — with Americans strongly supporting health insurance reform, with Congress reaching consensus on a plan, and with a president who ran and won on this specific promise of change — America is closer than ever to this century-deferred goal.

"This fall, at long last, we must reach it. "

To reach the un-reachable... star... Good luck with that, Madam Speaker, after calling your fellow Americans "un-American" for daring to disagree with you. Your Nixonian rhetoric was ill-chosen and very ironic.

(I don't know which one to grade lower, Pelosi's "un-American", or Barbara Boxer's "they are too well dressed to be sincere".)
