OT: Tokyo Snowed-In

The crowded metropolis still has open space like this.

(And no, it is not radioactive cesium or iodine from Fukushima in the falling snow that is causing the spike in radiation levels, as some people tried to claim (and were refuted) last year. They are Pb-214 (mistaken for I-131) and Bi-214 (mistaken for Cs-134, 137), both natural background.)

Actually, snow on the ground like this creates SPEEDI air radiation readings that are considerably lower than the new normal. For example, Fukushima is 12,060 right now. Usually it is over 17,000. Kanagawa was in the 40's before the snow melted. It is usually in the 50's. This tells me that covering the ground with snow or something like it would actually decrease people's exposure. Maybe if they repaved Fukushima....
