(Updated) Protesters Swarm the Square in Central Tokyo Where Noda Is to Give Speech

(Update-2) Here's the scenes at the square, in three parts, recorded live by Yasumi Iwakami's crew (here, here, here). It looks both the political left and the right were up against the Noda administration and shouting at the administration officials together. And old and young, somewhat reminiscent of the scenes that I watched earlier this year in Egypt.

The net media is laughing at Noda, who turned back on the way to the square, as "saved by Kim Jong Il".

(Update) PM Noda turned back to the Prime Minister's Official Residence on the news of the death of North Korea's Kim Jong Il, who died from working too hard for the people. Ostensibly (for both Noda and Kim).

Protesters say they were unjustly withheld by the police from coming into the square while the DPJ dignitaries were making speeches.

==========================

Oh boy. Some sight to behold. A swarming via the net is my guess.

Protesters arrived in great numbers to the square in Shinbashi where Prime Minister Noda is set to give a speech.

Check out USTREAM live, here.

Signs read:

"Cold shutdown is a lie"
"Noda is a liar"
"Protect children"
"Which nuke plant's accident is over? You liar"
"Cold shutdown? Accident Over? Who are you to decide?"
"Democratic Party of Japan's policy sucks"

Looks like they shouted him down, and he left without speaking?

High radioactive cesium levels found at Tokyo school
The said contaminated sheets were burnt and no more news came out of this.

It looks like:
#1. There could definitely be real hotspots in Tokyo (230km away)
#2. Highly contaminated trash (higher than the guideline) could be burned - the procedure is to mix with regular trash and burn.

Thank you for this post, arevamirpal::laprimavera! It is good to see the people of Japan doing what needs to be done, which is why this will not be covered in the M5M. May this political person be haunted by the sound of Geiger counter clicks for the rest of his (short) political career.

I think Noda did not go due to the sudden death of Kim Jong il.
His co-party leaders also went back to work on stuff they need to work on when a neighoring nuke powered dictator dies.

If Noda didn't know about Kim's death, his intelligence service is pretty pathetic. People who regularly listen to the national radio of North Korea (there are many such people in Japan) say the station has started to play only the solemn classical music on December 17.

There was an announcement at the square that PM Noda was on the way, and people started jeering even louder, saying "no more nuke plants", "DPJ, disband".

Then the announcement that Noda was not coming. DPJ politicians hastily left the platform, as more people shouting at them, waving anti-nuke, anti-sales tax, anti-TPP, anti-DPJ signs.

What's interesting about this protest is that it was not organized by the left, or by the right. People just came, and started shouting enough is enough, it seems.

"It looks both the political left and the right were up against the Noda administration and shouting at the administration officials together."

From the account of the person named Harada interviewed from 32:20 in the third clip it seems there was an active contingent flag-waving nationalists (うよく) at the demonstration shouting slogans in support of nuclear power. According to Harada, the slogan of these flag-waving rightists was 原発を守れ! (or Protect the nuclear power plants!).

From 36:00 in the third clip, the flag waving right wingers and nationalists can be seen shouting 帰れ!(or Go Back/Get Out!) while chasing away a (South) Korean television crew that is attempting to film a report on the anti-nuclear demonstration.

Agree with 8:04 that 7:22 should be removed for violently foul anti-feminine speech and for sheerly having nothing to add but hate. Over the top inappropriate.

Why does TEPCO and the Japanese Gov't want to declare it's Fukushima disaster Stable and more importantly, what do they hope to accomplish by doing it now; Is it a trail balloon?

A. If the people "swallow" this Nuclear Baloney (NB) then TEPCO and their other Gov't Leaders get to keep their jobs and march onward toward a nuclear future while the Nuclear refugees are "encouraged" to return to their Fukushima homes; letting history be the judge of whether or not this was the RIGHT decision.

B. The people of Japan reject the concept of a "cold shut down" in which case TEPCO, in time, gets nationalized and Japan develops a 20 year plan to replace it's reactors with solar of all flavors!

C. The people of Japan are insulted by what TEPCO and their Gov't is saying and take to the streets to DEMAND immediate change. TEPCO and their Government overseers are both swept away in order to placate the people of Japan. The Nuclear Refugees get settlements and the area around Fukushima is closed to all but scientific personal for the foreseeable future. Japan's PM pledges to "race" Germany toward New Japanese developed Solar and being Nuclear within FIVE years...

The Japanese people are now at a cross roads that will define both their future, their children's future and possibly the future of Nuclear Power on Earth!

What will they now do:
...Bow to TEPCO?
...Accept their Leaders vow to do better?
...Or Demand much less Nuclear ASAP?

This is a decision that only the Japanese People can make;
... I hope they make US proud of them!

Don't let some "CRAZY" comments sidetrack the discussion!

What is N☢W happening in Japan affects US all!
How about this Japan, what are your actual numbers?
Medical Journal Article: 14,000 U.S. Deaths Tied to Fukushima Reactor Disaster Fallout http://is.gd/5BQ6sD

Here is what is happening in INDIA:
http://is.gd/5BQ6sD

And now this, from Japan:

The national government under PM Noda is about to become the laughing stock of the world, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency is busy rewriting the definition of "leak".

Tokyo Shinbun reports that NISA has decided to basically "nullify" the leaks of contaminated water from Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant in the past, and declare that there will be no leak in the future either, even if there is actually a leak or deliberate discharge. Why? Because NISA says so.

NISA considers the amount of contaminated water into the ocean to be zero

There have been several leaks of water contaminated with radioactive materials from Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant. Tokyo Shinbun has found out through own investigation that the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has treated the amount of the leaks as "zero" from a legal [or regulatory] point of view, because it was a "state of emergency". The Agency has said it will treat the future leaks and deliberate discharges into the ocean the same way. The national government is scheduled to declare a "cold shutdown state" on December 16, but we are suspicious of the government's position that seems to ignore the suppression of the radioactive materials released from the plant, which is one of the important conditions [of the cold shutdown "state"].

It's very pleasing to see that our friends, the Japanese people, start to be no longer a people that would readily do suicide on command.

It's great that they meet spontaneously and peacefully across all political directions.
Let's hope they won't follow the way of hate and political segregation like many Western people do.

(See also the hate post of anon 7:22 to understand what I mean - hateful fighting under themselves instead of fighting those responsible for the status-quo isn't constructive)

@CaptD, thank you for quoting my post. http://ex-skf.blogspot.com/2011/12/japan-gone-nuts-nisa-declares-no.html

I don't see much need for hunting for particular words, not much time. As you may have noticed, this blog is not very PC, and I've been accused of being a communist, redneck, neocon, progressives, racist, bad trader, ignorant, liar, among many other things.

But just don't say "jap" in my blog.

As one of the "Japanese Irregulars" posting since 3/11 on HuffingtonPost, (now AOL/HP/USA) I know what a drain on time and energy blogging about the Trillion Dollar Eco-Disaster is!

My posts all come from the heart and it is fair to say that I usually end every single day with a heart felt, "Good Luck Japan!

Dear Primavera,

I am glad to hear that you dont like to be called jap. When I was in Japan I shared the same view with local japanese people and they stop calling me gaijin too.

However my name ended with no -san, when I had to called them -san, weird japanese kata that must be updated, hopefully this is the time.

Foreigners do not like to be called gaijin either, well some even do not care as long as they get their paycheck.

I am afraid that this rallies-demos, which I joined them the first months, do not lead to anywhere, not at this point anymore but are neccesary some how.

Hopefully japanese expats, gaikokujins, mamatachi and kokumin join forces, like you are doing with your everyday blogging task.
arigatou urutoraman!

As long as people are informed we may have some chances to see or change this global political Agenda.

In 2012 we may experience much more events globally, according to the speed of what is happening right now.

Please inform us what the Yakuza as HR in Tepco is doing in partner with Japanese cops hired by them!
Smells like they are managing large amounts of money to me...
