#Radioactive Landfill: Tokyo Metropolitan Government Has Been Doing It Since May

Yokohama City residents had just enough time to get organized very quickly and were able to halt (for now) the start of dumping of radioactive sludge ashes into the ocean in their final processing facility at the end of Minami Honmoku Pier on Tokyo Bay.

Tokyo residents either did not have a chance to do so because they didn't know, or they didn't care.

It turns out that Tokyo Metropolitan government has been dumping sludge from its water purification plants and burned ashes from the sewer sludge from the sludge plants in its landfill in Tokyo Bay at least since late May. The huge landfill is right near the Haneda Airport. (Photo from the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Environment)

On June 3, Tokyo Metropolitan government announced the result of air radiation survey done on the landfill locations where the radioactive sludge and ashes were being dumped, and that's how some people (mostly bloggers as far as I've found) noticed it and wrote about it.

I remember reading a twitter or two about Tokyo already dumping radioactive ashes and sludge, but there was no substantiating info with those tweets and I didn't follow up. On checking the Tokyo government's site just now, I haven't found any announcement that they would start dumping the ashes and sludge into the landfill in Tokyo Bay.

Instead, on the Tokyo government's site, there is the announcement of June 3 about radiation levels measured at the locations plotted on the map below:

(Translation of the table titles and cells below is mine, not Tokyo government's.)

The Bureau of Environment announcement says the facility accepts "sewer sludge ashes and sludge from water purification plants are accepted if they are mixed with cement or if they are wetted". (下水汚泥焼却灰、上水スラッジは、セメント混練りや湿潤化したものを受け入れている) The Bureau also says that they pile dirt on top of the fill for "appropriate management" of the sludge and ashes buried there.

The radiation levels looks pretty high to me for all the supposed precautions. What's peculiar is that the sludge from water purification plants generally tested higher than the sewer sludge ashes, and that there is no discernible difference between the measurement close to the surface and the measurement at 1 meter.

Why are these politicians and city bureaucrats so eager to burn and bury radioactive materials? Because they don't know? Because they think it's safe, as the national government says? Because they are in denial and think nothing has changed since March 11? If the answer is the latter two, why don't they then openly announce it and let the residents know?

I understand one of the reasons why Yokohama had run out of storage space for this radioactive ash is that their major outlet channel for it had dried up. The neighboring city of Kawasaki had previously been taking the stuff off Yokohama's hands and using it presumably for landfills, etc. Once they stopped taking it, much like Tokyo, Yokohama turned to the Homer Simpson playbook and decided to dump it in the bay.
While everybody is now asking the mayor of Yokohama about the dumping, I'm wondering where they incinerated the sludge and what risk incineration has posed to local residents.

Tokyo happily uses the majority of the nuclear electric without a care in the world. They can't complain. if I had my way the reactors would be near where they are needed. Downtown Shibuya sounds just about right. Only then will people sit up and take notice of where their electricity comes from. It is for too long that the beautiful rural areas are used and abused for the good of Tokyo-the 'heart and brains' of Japan-lol!
Let them eat cake...if it is cake they want to eat.

To your question: it's because properly storing radwaste (which is what this sludge is as per Japanese law) is EXPENSIVE AS FUCK.

Why are these politicians and ...? Because they ... know? Because they think ... ? Because they are in ... ? ... why don't they then openly announce ... ?

Now where is this Mystery? In denial?

Peek at last via papal depop periscope and no mystery anymore: programmed fill their duty in this widely advertized depop program - efficiently; japanese view has the yakuza radiator...

Good info. Thanks.

I wonder how serious it is long term. Need an expert for that.

Please elaborate sm more. Are you saying that irradiating arriving foreign visitors at airport is a regular japanese Shinto-based tradition? If so, shame on you.

If it is not, would it fit (?) the widely advertized 'overpopulation anomaly', eg. THE papal malthusian depopulation agenda - havin yakuz connections - which you poor earth besserwisser inhabitant 'seem to be' so ignorant...

If not these (nor WTF), reveal THE GREAT xplanation ONLY you can give us - to this maniac plan to kill /irradiate selected incoming passengers?

We are keenly waiting for your wisdom, pls open up.

In fact, the usage of ultra-low-level waste as landfill material looks very creative and intelligent to me.

The maps indicate that the radioactive landfill is enclosed by protective and insulating dams.

To be honest, is there really a better way to get rid of such waste without much groundwater contamination etc?

Any better pragmatic suggestions where that waste should be disposed of elsewhere economically and ecologically?

I propose sending it to Trondheim where "Arto" has volunteered, in concert w/the Jesuits, to 'de-spook' it by use of his HAARP Near-Focus Ionoblaster De-Stacker Device.

Right?

Maybe I should switch to comment system with verification that uses a math or physics problem, like Zero Hedge does... Something like "97 minus xxx equals -145", or "If Cl captures neutron, what will it become?"

Good idea. How about a question on the difference between neutron/neutrino?

Isn't there a zone around Fukushima where definitely nobody will live in at least the next 30 years? If the other places in Japan would pay Fukushima region to be allowed to deposite their sludge in the future no-man's land, wouldn't they be able to use that money for the people strugeling since march 11? If my understanding is right, the sludge is probably less radioactive than the normal ground in the exclusion zone.

I suggest as entry test writing WTF 1.000.000 times ...would ensure theses trolls would either answer clear questions or quit WTF based 'knowledge'.

Alas, brainless will never get the facts: HAARP is a system clearly documented in EU-archives, 10 laguage versions. Eh?

And J-Parc Myon accelerator shooting radioactive tunnels to Kamiokande, it is also WTF -or- japfairy tale? Or maybe its this dangerous radiatin mountain ... mysteriously keeping whole japan raining bequerels high.

Yes Arto is a real problem to the nukelubed, my hero. At least he has factys to show when u sorry folks got none... So many times his assasinations gone avry. Like your Gunpowder plot 1605. Maybe next time?

Now Full page of WTF, no facts, no answers or delete?
Please. Try at least to attack only the facty linkys given here: http://wp.me/pwIAV-19

Yea I know.

Impossible. And btw, theyre not mine.

So far all info given has been faux. Why would this sludge readings mysteriously be the first one accurate?

Ref. Minister Haraguchi Kazuhiro 02.07.2011 -statement “all rad. info given to public was actually 1000x more”

Let's go right to the heart of the matter.

I don't know if your native language is English or not but use of "the facty linkys given here:" suggests to people fluent in English that you're pulling their leg, at best an artifact of early adolescence.

Not knowing the significance of "Gunpowder plot 1605" and your frequent mention of the Jesuits/papacy suggests a further dissipation of the focus.

You seriously remind me of a history major w/one too many acid trips under the belt.

lol

How can anyone, in turn, state facts, give answers or "delete??" when they don't understand any of your dumbass writings.

And dood, WTF is a "myon" anyway,?

Areva, how about a verification question about myon/muon?

Anon 3:01 AM, whatTF is a "japfairy"? WhoTF are the "nukelubed" and do they have anything to do with the EPA? WhyTF are all the Arto assassinations gone to Switzerland? And would smoking up help me understand?

8:47,

Not only that, but he keeps mentioning "nukelubed" and shortly after asks us if "it ever hurts". Outrageous.

I'll speak for Americans, as I am one. If someone believes they're, shall we say 'abusing us', most Americans prefer that they not 'beat around the bush' and directly state they're doing so. Directness is valued and accorded some respect, even on the topic of others believing they're performing abuses upon us.

Perhaps this is therapy of some sort, suggested by use of "facty" & "linkys", two assuredly 'unusual' uses of the language.

In sum, come out of that verbal closet and state your intentions!

Brilliant. I missed the "if it ever hurts" allusion.

If you scramble up the words "facty" and "linkys" you can extract the word "stinky" from them. Yes! more hidden perverse messages for the sharp-eyed.

And as he has yet to stop use of "facty linkys", nor even intimated why a link has become linkys or factful became facty, not to mention explaining, changing, or apologizing for others finding him so absurd, only one conclusion remains.
He doesn't care what you think about anything. He now senses the pending importance of WTF. He's a bright one on a bright mission, not.
