#Fukushima I Nuke Plant: Areva's Water Treatment System Revealed

TEPCO released the process diagram and photographs of the Areva's water treatment system that is being built inside the Central Waste Processing Facility at Fukushima I Nuke Plant.

I guess it all depends on how specific the absorbent they are using is. They may end up removing Na and K in their fancy Cs absorption tower. The good news is most of the system is already in place. These AREVA guys may well be worth their astronomically-inflated fees after all :D.

Well the proof is in the pudding anyway. Fortunately TEPCO are required by law to publish the quality of the resulting water.

What happens to transuranic elements in that process ? How do they filter out plutonium ?

The price should not come into account at that point.
At least the soviets at chernobyl could use men to put down the fire, they killed hundreds when removing the scattered fuel on the roof, when helos poured boric acid and lead straight up from the core, when miners dug a trench to build a cooling system UNDER the corium (how many survived this late enough to see Y2K ???).

Can't the japanese State take the matter in its own hands or are they just as incompetent as TEPCO ?
Or maybe TEPCO does it right and there's nothing more that should be done ?

Wow, progress!

I was beginning to feel that nothing was actually getting done.

I am impressed by the desalination plant ... it seems like my plumber who did it in my garden ...
How much water will the day be treated and how to treat the entire volume of water rising inexorably in the reactor buildings? Still a mystery of Tepco

How well this works will depend on the fancy ISM ion exchange medium they are supposed to be using. It was developed for the TMI accident and refined to the present day. They claim it will work better on the salt contaminated water that standard mediums. This may be true but the question is how quickly will the material become saturated in the nuclear tea?

I think part of the reason AREAV is worried about how well their system will work is the water is probably much more contaminated than anything they have every dealt with. Kurion says they have 100 tons of ISM exchange medium on hand but until the treatment plant starts running they won't know if this amount is sufficient. More can be made but if it take something crazy like a ton to treat a ton their cost/timeline might be shot to hell.

Kurion is supposed to be a one stop shop for all your nuclear decontamination needs they also offer a “Modular Vitrification System (MVS) that is supposed to lower contaminated ISM isolation costs. This also means Fukushima will officially become a nuclear waste dump. Kurion talks a good game but so did every other venture that leaked contamination decades later or had unforeseen problems with their process. Only time and a vigilant public will tell how well this will work. Myself, I find it strange that the nuclear industry has kept this wondrous technology quiet all these years. IIRC AREVA originally wanted to keep all of this information under wraps with a "confidentiality [non-disclosure] clause".

Here's a little decontamination funfact:

"It is widely expected that the size and scope of the Japanese situation at Fukushima will be larger than the US own defense clean-up efforts from pre and post cold-war bomb-making sites such as Hanford–and may take as long as 30 years.

(actually some parts of the country will become national sacrifices for 1000's of years).

Currently nearly 25%, 1 in every 4 dollars spent by the US Department of Energy is spent on nuclear-waste cleanup, an understandably widely underreported fact, and arguably the most pressing environmental problem in the United States."

There is nothing you can do to stop meltdowns except vitrification of the melted fuel in a melted sand matrix such as volcanic olivine. Pouring water on is the WRONG way to go. That only supports sporadic criticalites. You cannot solve the problem and you create more problems with the radioactive water. Ion exchange for the water does not solve the release into the surrounding environment of gamma radiation and neutron beams or of plutonium alpha particles and uranium metal fumes formed at high temperatures, which are respirable.
Japan is clearly being sacrificed as revenge for self financing its large public debt. This is the historic pattern for all those who go up against the Rothschild cabal controlling global governance. It is time the Japanese people gave up on Mickey Mouse solutions to their problems and decided if they want to have a future. They need to shut down their entire nuclear industry and bury every single nuclear site underground starting with Fukushima Daiichi. Or bring their entire game to a halt, because there is no future in it.
Talking about cleaning up the wastewater pouring out of melted down reactors is pretty stupid considering what needs to be done is to stop pouring on the water and to entomb the entire site under sand with a concrete cap like the one in the Marshall Islands site. There is no other solution to meltdown ever found and the Russians did not stop their meltdown with boron drops which actually missed. All the Chernobyl fuel melted out of the broken open reactors and was found in the basements fused with melted sand in big elephants' feet. That was a high temperature solution, not from water.
People will finally have to admit the facts when TEPCO unearths the corium beneath their reactors. That is where it should stay, but buried hundreds of feet down under a mountain of sand with a concrete cap. No other solution to meltdown has ever been found.
Meanwhile go play Mickey Mouse while yall destroy your only land base and contaminate the rest of our world for us, fucking morons!!!!
I know, GE and the Synagogue of Satan put you up to it so it's not really your fault. OOOhh, more mickey mouse denial....wake up.

At least the Hari-Krishna are safe around your kids, have wholesome organic vegetarian feasts, love nature and warn you that they are coming with their saffron dyed robes AND DON'T RADIOACTIVLY CONTAMINATE THE WHOLE WORLD LIKE THESE INSIPID PIECES OF DOG SCRAPINGS. NOTHING GAVE THESE DEATH-WORTHY CATBOX-FOR-BRAINS THE RIGHT TO DO THIS BECAUSE THE REST OF THEIR COMMUNITY WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO LET THEM. I NOW HAVE LEARNED WHY THE ILLUMINATI CLAIM TO BE SMART ENOUGH TO CONDEMN STUPIDITY. THEY BREED IT. EVERY TIME THEY OPEN THEIR MOUTHS.
