Ishihara: "It's Plain Stupid to Abandon Nuclear Plants!" (and Nuclear Technology, Probably)

Donation from electric power companies to his new party must be swelling by the minute.

According to Jiji Tsushin (10/24/2012), Mr. Ishihara, who was still the governor of Tokyo at that time, made the remark in a press conference at J-Village in Naraha-machi, Fukushima, after he toured Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant on October 24, 2012 in suits (without Tyvek) accompanied by the governors of Ibaraki and Gunma Prefectures.

Governor of Tokyo Shintaro Ishihara, Governor of Ibaraki Masaru Hashimoto, and Governor of Gunma Masaaki Oosawa visited Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant on October 24. After the visit, Mr. Ishihara emphasized the necessity of nuclear power plants to the press at J-Village in Naraha-machi, saying "There are points which we should seriously reflect upon, but to throw away the modern, new technology system created by the mankind just because of the accident is stupid."

Jiji says Ishihara was referring to nuclear power plants, but I'm not so sure. He may have meant nuclear power plants, but given his ultra-hawkish stance on security issues he may have also meant nuclear technologies in general, including nuclear weapon making.

Here's Ishihara, flanked by the governors of Ibaraki and Gunma, telling TEPCO managers and workers at Fukushima I Nuke Plant "You're doing the great job that only Japanese can do, with meticulous attention to detail", (according to the same Jiji article).

From TEPCO's Photos and Videos page on October 24, 2012:

Ishihara looks good for his age.

After witnessing the devastation from the two atomic bombs dropped, there were many people in power in Japan who wanted to have such powerful weapons themselves. Maybe it had a similar impression on then-13-year-old Ishihara.

he just found a good reason to go live just outside the forced evacuation zone.
He his a dangerous idiot, and fascist on top of that.

This fascit scum should be assasinated along with Hashimoto, unfortunately they are in league with dark forces so watch them rise up and take control of Japan soon...

This delusional old man should quit and retire forever. Why not build a house on Senkaku islands and live there with his two sons. None of them will be missed. I hope for Japan that he will fail miserably. Japan has many incapable politicians already, but this right-wing geezer can only make it worse.

I'm sure there were many people praying for his departure from Tokyo, especially in light of his apparent inability to learn from the Fukushima incident.

As he stands in Gajin attire.

Anon @2:53 -

Please don't stereotype. Some of us in Tokyo are not even allowed to vote! Personally I am so happy he is finally leaving. Satan be gone!

Isn't this the same douche that supported Aum Shinrikyo until the Tokyo subway Sarin gas attack happened? Afterwards he quietly dropped out of the Diet and 4 years later became the Governor of Tokyo?! That is almost as bad as Washington D.C. Mayor Marion Berry getting busted for smoking crack serving his jail sentence and then getting reelected.

Shin-chan also said "old women who live after they have lost their reproductive function are useless and are committing a sin," yet he's married to a sinner. If he didn't hate homo's so much I'd say he was a militant gay guy.

The fact that this misogynistic racist moron is popular in Japan doesn't bode well for the future because people who forget their history are doomed to repeat it. This pinhead wants to restore Japan to it's former "military glory" without remembering how it turned out last time. The next time around is going to be all drones, railguns and Rods from God space based weapons so be careful what you wish for. Not to mention both Germany and Japan enjoyed an economic boon due to the fact they were only allow to waste a small fraction of their tax base on weapons that can never be used. Wait until Japan has free reign to write cost plus defense contracts they are already leveraged to the hilt only a war can pay for that kind of bling.

The Chinese will give japan hell when there is a war , all those horriffic war crimes come at a price that japan still is in denial about, its payback time it seems and the likes of Ishihara are ignorant and delusional , there are plenty of japanese that like this guy and that shows where Japan is heading... the scrapheap ..

Japanese leadership is incapable of successfully mitigating the core meltdowns. The UN should intervene here to ensure that a thorough mitigation is performed according to international standards. The northwest Pacific fisheries are at stake here. Japan apparently does not care about its own people.

Anon above, I'm not sure whether the UN is any more capable than Japan. What "international standards"? IAEA's (which is headed by a Japanese bureaucrat)?

@ anon 3:37

Unfortunately the the IAEA sets the international mitigation standards and it has nothing but good things to say about the Japanese nuclear industry. As far as the IAEA is concerned they have handled something that is never supposed to ever happen so anything they do is good enough.

The people in control don't care if the northwest Pacific fisheries become contaminated they have the money to eat clean and see the finest doctors if a problem comes up. It wouldn't surprise me if they own a majority of the cancer treatment specific centers that have sprung up in the last decade.

I have to agree with 10:06 China isn't the "Sick man of Asia" anymore they are the 2nd most powerful economy on the planet with vast natural resources and manufacturing capacity. I seem to remember a story about the Japanese waking a sleeping giant to their great dismay once.

I was once a high-ranking official in a Japanese new-age cult for many years. The founder and guru of this cult was one of Ishihara’s closest associates and the guru personally initiated him into the cult since the guru says how they both shared the same aims and ideologies. In fact Japanese members of the cult are encouraged to study Ishihara’s writings, etc. After I deserted the cult I discovered how my ex-guru had been a fanatical militarist and a key figure in the infamous Rape of Nanjing which, incidentally, Shintaro Ishihara claims never happened and is simply a Chinese fabrication.

So, I would advise one to be wary of this man, his associates and any Japanese new or old age movement selling global peace and harmony as it could cost you dearly as it did me. If you are interested to know more, you are welcome to check out my website. Just click on my name.
