Japan Earthquake Visualization Map 1/1/2011 - 1/1/2012

A very clever video posted by Storymonoroch on Youtube.

From March 1 to March 10, 2011, things sort of quieted down. Calm before the storm, literally. The video also has a graph overlay of the cumulative number of earthquakes.

Thank you for finding this. As someone that has experienced most of this I appreciate the visual. I still do not understand why 3/9/2011 didn't raise some flags.

Damn illustrative visualization!
My big thanks for finding and sharing this!

I also don't understand why that heavy "pre-warning" quake of 3/9/2011 apparently was ignored.

Probably much of the damage occurred could have been avoided, if the coastal nuclear plants would have been prophylactically shut down in advance.
However, as this would have shown the danger of nuclear energy on a earthquake hotspot like Japan, this was not done and so the reactors were hit while running at full throttle.

Anyway, I am no geologist, but I find very interesting that after the big quake the quakes in the submarine mountain range south of Kanto and east of Hokkaido appeared to die out.

I don't know whether this is harmless or an indication that there tensions are building up, accumulating energy to be released on another mega-quake.
Maybe this is the reason why some geologists state that another mega-quake is imminent in the next few years? Which would then hit at either Kanto or Hokkaido...

So I ask myself if there is any plan to shut down nuclear plants temporarily when another precursor earthquake like that one on 3/9/2011 occurs.
I really hope the outcome won't be that other nuclear plants, that time in central Japan or Hokkaido, will go kaboom and poison the part of Japan that is still comparably "clean"...

So much energy in some quakes, so much energy in the plants, that are already very complex... I am no anti-nuke activist, but I think in some locations it is too risky. And not only in Japan.
