#Fukushima I Nuke Plant Reactor 4 Spent Fuel Pool Debris Map with NRC Heat Map Overlay

The original debris map of Reactor 4's Spent Fuel Pool (created by Hitachi) was released by TEPCO on April 23, 2012 in the document for the Working Council for "Mid-and-long-Term Roadmap towards the Decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Units 1-4". The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has the decay heat map of the same pool created by the US Department of Energy ("Official Transcript of Proceedings", released on May 26, 2011 (link is PDF), page 188). You overlay these two maps, and you'll get this:

The Reactor 4 SFP contains 204 new fuel assemblies and 1331 spent fuel assemblies.

(H/T anon supporter of this blog for the map. H/T reader Atomfritz for the NRC link. Thank you.)

The decay heat data from the NRC are from one year ago?

With clean-up around Chernobyl abandoned, what can Japan learn from 1986 disaster?

April 26TH, 2012 marks 25 years since Chernobyl. This is a great documentary on its current status. It is shocking to realize that 7 million people were affected and over 2 million have died as a result of this accident. The survivors and their children are faced with a life expectancy that has dropped from 75 years to 55 years in ten years. It is even more alarming that Fukushima is so much worse than Chernobyl. I am pro-nuclear but I am not pro-stupidity. The nuclear industry has to change. This issue of constantly passing the buck to the next generation has to end. Sweeping dirt under a rug never cleaned up anything! These covers of deception are nothing more than fake window dressings that offer no additional protection to the public what so ever! While working in the nuclear industry I witnessed Senator Phil Roe and his staff come into my work area on a plant tour. They stood right in front of an issue I had been addressing safety concerns on. While Timothy Lindstrom walked around the area to my position to ask permission to introduce Senator Roe to me LOL we both surprised to walk around the corner and see Senator Roe’s shirt
Tail quickly exiting the building. Senator Roe never addressed the issue he stood in front of that day but I did and I saw it fixed. I am running for the position of U.S. Representative for the 1ST District of Tennessee. Under my authority this passing the buck and tucking ones tail and running for cover while leaving others in unsafe work conditions will end. Please share this vote with all your friends even those not in Tennessee because what happens in Chernobyl happens to us all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9Ts18dxuH0&feature=related

Well, now we know Karen's ulterior motive for persistently commenting here.

Take your damned political campaigning elsewhere. You are the same person who, during an interview, said Texas could and should build enough nuke plants to power the nation. Yeah, and you are going to be the one to constantly monitors them and your "authority" will change things. No, you are definitely pro-stupid, not to mention completely f'ing nuts.

Karen, unless you are anti nuke period, I will not support you or your ignorant self.. Nuclear power will unmake our species, is expensive, messy, non renewable, and is a stifling of our intelligence by corporate welfare programs..managed by politicians. Geez, we put a man on the moon almost 50 years ago.. we should have evolved way past this archaic death and deformity bs.. as a way to generate power..and would have had our elected cared as much about the taxpayer as the corporations profits.

Karen,

Thanks for your honesty in saying who you are and where you have come from. I suggest keeping at least an open mind about your pro-nuclear position. I would strongly suggest, for starters, a serious investigation into the health and safety records of the nuclear materials plant in Oakridge, Tenn. Examine also the health records of the children near Oakridge born downwind, in high rainfall areas, or whose water table is connected to that underneath Oakridge. Examine those health records for the twenty years before and every year since the opening of the weapons facility at Oakridge. Make sure someone is willing to pay an INDEPENDENT epidemiologist, and make sure that someone is NOT in the employ of the nuclear industry. Get independent and historic soil, water and air samples for 100 miles around Oakridge and then publicaly report the findings. And please make public announcements about isotopic pollution start distinguishing between an external dose and the specific dose to a specific organ from internal emitters. You know, all of the above just to be a really refreshing politician, and just in the interest of real science on behalf of all future generations of human beings and other beings ever born again in the state of Tennessee...

You guys should all try to broaden your perspectives and use more, and more sensible, information sources. Chernobyl might lead to 10,000 deaths, in all, and Fukushima much, much fewer. Epidemologically, it will be unmeasurable noise among ordinary cancers.

If you Americans want to worry about pollution, then worry about traffic related pollution and coal related pollution first. Those are a thousand times worse.

Will you still have time for all your braindead TV program watching? Tisk.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand what the map is showing? Presumably the blue rectangular shapes represent building debris. The Asahi Shimbun 5/28/12 photos demonstrate the worst damage to Unit 4 is on the south side near the Spent Fuel Pool, not the Unit 3 side. And that damage appears to be the result of massive explosion, not fire. I came to this post hoping to see your theory of what happened in Unit 4's SPF.

Something doesn't add up. In that video : http://tepco.webcdn.stream.ne.jp/www11/tepco/download/120322_01j.zip

One can see basket n°. 34 is full (very first image) and n°. 35 is only half-full (12 bundle missing @ 02:00). The NRC residual heat map didn't help much and is in fact probably outdated.

It happened before.. and it will happen again.. the creator of this planet will NOT allow man to destroy it.. Just before wiping all but 8 humans and a boatload of animals from the surface of the Earth he made this comment..

“Jehovah saw that the badness of man was abundant in the earth and every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only bad all the time. And the earth came to be ruined in the sight of the true God and the earth became filled with violence. So God saw the earth and, look! it was ruined, because all flesh had ruined its way on the earth. After that God said to Noah: ‘The end of all flesh has come before me, because the earth is full of violence as a result of them; and here I am bringing them to ruin together with the earth.’”—Gen. 6:5, 11-13.

Be assured, there is one who has made “a clear declaration” and who will take “decisive action”—Jehovah God. In fact, he has gone on record unambiguously stating that he will intervene and “bring to ruin those ruining the earth.” (Revelation 11:18) Furthermore, God assures us that earth’s ecosystems will be restored. The deserts will blossom. (Isaiah 35:1) Food will be plentiful. Rivers will be free of pollution. (Psalm 72:16; 98:8) God guarantees a blessing for every living thing on earth.—Psalm 96:11, 12.

Man does not know how, nor does he deserve to rule the Earth.. the time has comr for the Creator to rescue it, and he will.
